Definition A popular term for eyes that are red due to dilation of the conjunctival vessels overlying the sclera.

Aetiology Dry air, sun exposure, dust, foreign body, contact lenses, computer vision syndrome, allergy, infection, ocular herpes, trauma, uveitis, glaucoma

Clinical findings Pain, burning itching.

Management Case-by-case–e.g., remove contact lenses, eye rest, cool compresses over eyes, eye drops, antibiotics. 

Synonyms Blood shot eyes, conjunctival injection, scleral injection
