Definition The white cerebellum sign is a finding of diffusely decreased attenuation of the supratentorial brain compared to the infratentorial brain (cerebellum, thalami, and brainstem), which appear denser (whiter). The sign indicates irreversible brain damage and carries a very poor prognosis.
Aetiology Extreme hypoxia, strangulation, drowning, trauma, child abuse or diffuse cerebral oedema.
Synonym Dense cerebellum sign, reversal sign (of brain)
