Sonohysteroscopy is an adaptation of ultrasound used evaluate the endometrium–in particular its thickness, which is increased in endometrial hyperplasia, an often precancerous condition and other changes–e.g., fibroids (leiomyomas) of the uterine cavity.
Technique Sterile saline is infused through the uterine cervix into the uterus followed by transvaginal ultrasonographic imaging of the endometrium and uterus.
