PSYCHIATRY

The wearing of dark-coloured glasses under normal lighting conditions in absence of photophobia or photosensitivity. The tinted spectacles sign may be associated with underlying psychoneuroses.

Scores for symptom dimensions–anxiety and phobic anxiety, depression, global psychological distress, obsession-compulsion, paranoid ideation, psychotic behaviour and somatisation are significantly higher in subjects who regularly don “shades”.
