Sunday neurosis

A popular term* for a constellation of symptoms seen in individuals who function well in planned and organised work settings, because scheduled activities tend to restrict anxiety

*Attributed to Viktor E. Frankl, in Man’s Search for Meaning

When presented with unstructured weekends or holidays, the usual defence mechanisms are turned off, and they may suffer anxiety, conversion reactions, dissociative states, obsessions, compulsions, and phobic responses.
