A disorder included in the American Psychiatric Association’s DSM 5* under OSFED, and defined as recurrent episodes of night eating, eating after awakening from sleep, or excessive food consumption after the evening meal. The behavior is not better explained by another mental health disorder—e.g., binge eating disorder, nor by environmental influences or social norms, and causes significant distress/impairment.

*Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th edition Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder. To meet the criteria of OSFED, the person must present with feeding or eating behaviours that cause clinically significant distress and impairment in areas of functioning, but do not meet the full criteria for any of the other feeding and eating disorders.
