crazy cat lady
A popular stereotype referring to a subpopulation of older single women who by circumstance or choice replace personal and social relationships and human interaction with feline companionship.
Most people would regard 4 (house) cats as the highest cut-off point between a normal human relationship with domestic pets and distinctly abnormal.
The “crazy” part may have a pathophysiological substrate in that such women often have high antibody levels of the cerebrocentric parasiteToxoplasma gondii, which suggests that they may have subtle brain involvement explaining their mental state.
