Antarctic stare

A popular term for a fugue-like state* seen in polar explorers, which has been attributed to an adaptation to an environment lacking stimulation or to a disruption in the circadian rhythm accompanied by prolonged exposure to constant darkness.

*The so-called 20-foot stare in a 10-foot room
