sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor

CELL BIOLOGY

Any of a group of G-protein-coupled receptors that are divided into five subtypes–S1P1, S1P2, S1P3, S1P4 and S1P5–which are differentially expressed in different tissues. S1P receptors couple to different G proteins to mediate various cellular activities.

Examples

• Gi/Go modulates cellular survival, proliferation and motility

• G12/G13 modulates cytoskeletal remodeling and cell-shape changes

• Gq modulates a range of cellular effector functions.
