NEUROPHYSIOLOGY

One of three major pathways in the hippocampus that plays a role in long-term potentiation (memory), which projects from the entorhinal cortex to the granule cells of the dentate gyrus.

Like the other two hippocampus pathways*, it is sensitive to previous activation, e.g., a brief train of high frequency stimuli increases the amplitude of the excitatory postsynaptic potential–EPSPs in target hippocampal neurons. 

*The mossy fibre pathway and the Schaffer collateral pathway
