ONCOLOGY

Definition A therapeutic agent produced by GSK–GlaxoSmithKline, which is a reversible inhibitor of B-Raf–BRAF kinase, an enzyme involved in regulating cell growth. It is FDA-approved for managing metastatic melanoma.

Adverse effects–common Hyperkeratosis, headache, fever, arthralgia, benign skin neoplasms, alopecia, hand-foot syndrome

Adverse effects–serious Increased risk of squamous cell carcinoma of skin, fevers with hypotension, rigors, dehydration, acute renal failure, hyperglycemia, diabetes
