Definition A popular term for a clear-to-milky discharge from the nipples of up to 5% of neonates of either sex, which is accompanied by breast hypertrophy and caused by transplacental hormonal effects. It is most common in term infants, has a composition similar to maternal milk, is benign, associated with duct ectasia and usually disappears by 2 months of age.
