fever phobia

Definition A popular term for the excessive concern by parents, less commonly, but also by paediatricians, regarding fever in children, which may result in over-management with antipyretics, some of which are nephro- and/or hepatotoxic.

Most fears regarding fever–e.g., it causes seizures, brain damage and, if high enough, death, are unfounded.
