Definition The sleeping of an infant in the same room as one or both parents, as opposed to sleeping in a separate room.

Comment Bed sharing is a type of co-sleeping in which the infant actually sleeps in the same bed as the parent(s).

Pros Close contact with parent during critical formative period of infancy

Cons Risk of death–±60 infants die/year in the USA due to suffocation, strangulation in bed clothing, or overlying (bed sharing)
