red hepatisation

A descriptive term for the pathologic changes seen in well-developed lobar pneumonia, which is red–due to extravasation of RBCs, firm, carnous and dense–due to fibrin accumulation, and friable–due to necrosis, and thus likened to the consistency of the liver (see lower portion of image)
