orangeophilia

orangeophilia
CYTOLOGY
A light microscopic finding which corresponds to the “pumpkin orange” parakeratosis of pap-stained preparations of metaplastic cells.
Whilst orangeophilia may be seen in cytologic preparations of poorly-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma–e.g., of the lung, head & neck and the uterine cervix, it is not a neoplastic change per se, but rather more characteristic of atrophic (menopause) ectocervical cells or metaplastic bronchial epithelial cells (seen here).
