A widely* used scoring system for assessing arthritis-related disability of the hips and knees. It is derived from a proprietary questionnaire developed at the Western Ontario and McMaster University in 1982, in which the patient answers questions regarding rheumatic symptoms, stiffness, pain and functionality. It has been used to assess disability due to osteoarthritis, back pain, rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and fibromyalgia.
