closed chain pronation

A term of art referring to movement of the subtalar joint during weight bearing. Subtalar pronation occurs by calcaneal eversion, with talar adduction and plantarflexion resulting in internal rotation of the leg.

During closed chain pronation, the talus acts as an extension of the leg in the frontal and transverse plane.

Synonym Talar and calcaneal pronation
