Garden’s classification
ORTHOPAEDICS
A system for classifying femoral neck fractures, based on the hip’s appearance on an anteroposterior film, which is used to guide treatment
Garden’s classification–femoral neck fractures
I Incomplete fracture of neck–aka abducted or impacted fracture
II Complete fracture without displacement
III Complete fracture with partial displacement–fragments are still connected by posterior retinacular attachment; there is malalignment of the femoral trabecula
IV Complete femoral neck fracture with full displacement: the proximal fragment is free and lies correctly in the acetabulum–trabeculae appear normally aligned
