A shoulder with incapacitating pain caused by bursitis and inflammation due to primary or secondary osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, cuff tear arthropathy and the clinically similar Milwaukee shoulder, postmastectomy, avascular necrosis, calcific tendonitis, and tearing of rotator cuff muscles.
Clinical findings Frozen shoulderhas been divided into three stages:
• Frozen–when range of motion is at a minimum
• Thawing–when symptoms improve and range of motion increases.
Management Aspirin, NSAIDs, physical therapy, steroid injections; surgery is a last-resort and consists of removing adhesions.
