A back pain syndrome attributed to osteoarthritis of the vertebral zygapophysial joints (synovial diarthroses), from C2 to S1.

Clinical findings Low back pain that increases with extension, radiates to the posterior thigh, and ends at the knee. 

Imaging Narrowing of disk space, osteophyte formation by plain films, MRI, CT

Management NSAIDs, intraarticular injections with anaesthetics, low back fusion with bone degeneration, endurance training. 

Synonym Posterior joint dysfunction
