Definition Fundus flavimaculatus is an autosomal recessive retinal disorder very similar to Stargardt disease 1 (OMIM: 248200), which is characterised by later onset and slowly progressive course

Molecular pathology Defects of ABCA4, which encodes an ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter that transports various molecules across extra- and intracellular membranes, cause fundus falvimaculatus as well as Stargardt disease 1.
