A pregnancy in which there are two genetically normal gestational products.
Twin pregnancies should not to be confused with twin molar pregnancies
Synonym Garden variety twin pregnancy
A term of art for the über rare coexistence of a normal intrauterine pregnancy and gestational trophoblastic disease–GTD.
Because management of twin molar pregnancies is problematic, these cases should be handled in tertiary care centres, especially if the woman elects to carry the normal “twin” to term. Up to 40% of women deliver a healthy baby despite potential complications including pulmonary embolism and pre-eclampsia. The risk of persistent GTD after such pregnancies is low.
