caesarean delivery on maternal request
A self-explanatory term for a caesarean delivery performed without maternal or fetal indications and typically a preplanned response to mom’s whims.
Reasons for preferring CDMR Fear of labour, poor prior experiences with labour, concerns about specific outcomes–e.g., fecal or urinary incontinence.
Frequency 0.4% to 2% of all deliveries in the USA
• Maternal morbidity Anaesthetic complications, infection, organ injury, pain, delayed return to sexual activity
• Neonatal morbidity Respiratory tract morbidity
• Etc Iatrogenic morbidity, negative effect on breastfeeding, abnormal placentation, increased length of stay and cost.
