socially unacceptable snoring
A self-explanatory term for snoring that is so loud that the snorer’s spouse, bed-mate or room-mate finds it difficult or impossible to sleep, which can affect the relationship between the affected parties.
Diagnostic work-up Sleep history, polysomnography, sleep endoscopy, analysis of general factors
Management Continuous positive airway pressure–CPAP, sleep devices and appliances that open the airway by bringing the mandible or tongue forward during sleep, traditional surgical approaches—e.g., Pillar procedure, thermal ablation palatoplasty, tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy, and uvulopalatopharyngoplasty, which increase airway diameter, and newer procedures—e.g., laser-assisted uvulopalatoplasty and somnoplasty.
