pink noise

A signal or process for which the energy is inversely proportional to cycle frequency. In pink noise, each octave (halving/doubling in frequency) band carries an equal amount of energy.

Relevance Pink noise patterns have been found in cardiac rhythms, neural activity, DNA sequences, and other processes.

The name arises from the pink appearance of visible light of the noise.

Synonyms 1/f noise, flicker noise
