Definition Descending paralysis refers to acute diffuse weakness and paralysis which begins in the bulbar region (upper extremities) and progresses distally.

Differential diagnosis Miller Fisher syndrome (a variant of Guillain-Barré syndrome), botulism 

Synonym Top-to-bottom paralysis
