Definition A syndrome, lesion, surgical procedure or clinical sign that bears the name of the author who first described the entity, or less commonly, the name of the index patient(s) who is (usually) the first person associated with a particular lesion

Comment Despite a movement toward eliminating the possessive ‘s for eponyms, in the present work, the McKusick rules (see JAMA 1984 252:1041) have been adopted, albeit slightly modified
