An autosomal dominant (OMIM:137215) cancer predisposition syndrome characterised by increased susceptibility to diffuse cancer, which begins in the stomach, and typically spreads both locally to the oesophagus, small intestine, and other organs, as well as to adjacent lymph nodes. 

Molecular pathology Defects of CDH1, which encodes epithelial cadherin, a calcium dependent cell-cell adhesion glycoprotein involved in regulating cell-cell adhesions, mobility and proliferation of epithelial cells, cause gastric cancer—hereditary diffuse.
