hypoglycaemia—leucine-induced

ENDOCRINOLOGY

Definition Hypoglycaemia—leucine-induced is a rare type of hereditary hypoglycaemia (OMIM:240800) which is triggered by a high protein diet, especially by administration of the amino acid leucine.

Molecular pathology Defects of ABCC8, which encodes a protein that transports various molecules across extra- and intra-cellular membranes and modulates ATP-sensitive K+  channels and insulin release, cause hypoglycaemia—leucine-induced.
