Definition Diabetes mellitus—transient neonatal—2 is a form (OMIM:610374) of diabetes mellitus characterised by the onset of mild-to-severe hyperglycaemia within the first months of life, which remits early, and may relapse during adolescence. 

Molecular pathology Defects of ABCC8, which encodes a protein that transports various molecules across extra- and intra-cellular membranes and modulates ATP-sensitive K+ channels and insulin release, cause diabetes mellitus—transient neonatal—2.
