rule of five

A posit in critical care that holds that a patient who has five or more support lines–e.g., NG tube, Foley catheter, central line, TPN drip, ECMO–extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, is in critical condition, should be admitted to the ICU/ITU, and has little chance of long term survival.
