Any of 3 trypsin-like cysteine proteinases–rgpA, rgpB, and kgp produced by Porphyromonas gingivalis, a bug seen in adult periodontitis. Gingipains degrade macrophage CD14, inhibiting leukocyte activation via the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) receptor, thereby facilitating sustained oral colonisation of P gingivalis.
