Definition The deposition of a crystalline layer (known as a epitaxial film or epitaxial layer) on a crystalline substrate.

Comments Epitaxis is used in nanotechnology and semiconductor fabrication, in the latter of which epitaxy is the only affordable method of growing high quality crystals.

This has little to do with medicine except for its potential confusion with similarly spelled medical terms, to wit, epistasis and epistaxis
