single pulse defibrillation
A self-explanatory term for therapeutic defibrillation that terminates ventricular tachyarrhythmias by delivering a single high voltage pulse across one pathway through the myocardium.
The single pulse format is less effective* than sequential defibrillation—which has the further advantage of requiring less energy.
*And little used in practice.
Synonym Single pulse cardioversion
