coronary heart disease—susceptibility to—type 5

CARDIOLOGY, MOLECULAR MEDICINE

Definition A multifactorial disorder (OMIM:608901) characterised by an imbalance between myocardial oxygen needs and the capacity of the coronary arteries to supply enough oxygenated blood flow. Decreased coronary capacity is associated with thickening and loss of elasticity of the coronary arteries.

Molecular pathology Defects of KALRN, which encodes a protein with multiple functions, including inhibition of nitric oxide synthase and guanine exchange factor activity, and vesicle trafficking, cause coronary heart disease—susceptibility to—type 5
